Boot and Shoe Factory

This photograph of a Poughkeepsie, New York, boot and shoe factory was taken sometime in the 1870s. As factories such as this one arose, Poughkeepsie’s population grew from 9,000 in 1850 to 20,207 in 1880. The banking industry, too, flourished in Poughkeepsie.
