Washington, D.C., protest poster
Poster displayed at a late-1960s demonstration against the building of a highway through African American neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. In many cities, citizens formed coalitions to oppose proposed interstate routes. Some were successful at stopping construction or rerouting the highway, but most of the highways were built.
