Pocahontas Portrait by Thomas Sully

Thomas Sully (1783–1872), a well-known early American painter, was born at Hornecastle, England, and studied under Gilbert Stuart in Boston and Benjamin West in London. He later settled in Philadelphia. It is not known what picture Sully used as a model for this portrait of Pocahontas.
