Banknote: Maryland, July 26, 1775, front

All denominations printed in 1775 carry propaganda woodcuts by the Annapolis engraver Thomas Sparrow. This bill shows a personification of America presenting a petition from the Continental Congress to Britannia, who carries a spear and shield. Behind America is a contingent of Continental troops carrying a flag with LIB for Liberty. And behind, King George III tramples on the Magna Charta as he torches an American city under attack from the British fleet.
