Banknote: North Carolina, April 2, 1776, Beaver
Each North Carolina bill from April 2, 1776, features a vignette, usually with a
variation for each denomination. Some also contain a motto. The bills were
engraved on copper plates by G.L. (his initials appear on one variety of the
monogram bills), who was identified as the Baltimore goldsmith Gabriel Lewyn.
This bill shows a beaver on the bottom left and an alligator on the top.
